Blow the Man Down Song

Hello again
I need some help with another disney park song. This one is a easy one, but I do not know where it goes. It is called Blow the Man Down. I thought it was from the Sailing Ship Columbia or the 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, but it sounds like it is from Splash Mountain or Frontierland. It has more of a country sound to it. Here is the link to download it.
https://www.sendspace.com/file/k3bw8y
Thanks again for the help.

Bryan

That sounds like it's from How Bower's excellent recording of the Liberty Square Columbia Harbour House restaurant interior BGM.  I'll have to do a side-by-side comparison to be sure.

I do not for the earlier version(s), but TyphoonLagoon (a.k.a Horizons) compiled the following for the current version, which uses the version of Blow the Man Down referenced by the original poster:

Running time: approx. 59:26

01. Blow Ye Winds [2]
02. A Roving
03. Away Rio [2]
04. Asleep in the Deep [1]
05. Heave Away Me Johnnys [2]
06. A Long Time Ago
07. Maid of Amsterdam (A Rovin') [2]

16. Strike the Bell [2]
17. What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor [1]
18. Bound for South Australia / New York Girls [Edited] [2]

[2] The Wind in the Rigging by Various Artists (North Star)

Notes: Playlist based on a live recording by Horizons and compiled by Horizons and wedroy1923. The playlist was originally posted on Horizons' blog at Magic Music of the Mouse discussion board.

I see... the playlist was only in the MagicMusic blogs which are not online because Jay switched the site to XenForo without including a plan for blog support.  That's very unfortunate.

we originally posted our playlists blog on Magic Music but, since moving to a new server they have been unavailable as the new server doesn't offer that facility.
There are multiple ways to integrate WordPress, a very popular blogging platform, and XenForo, the new MagicMusic forum software:
https://www.google.com/search?q=wordpress+xenforo+integration

XenWord is receiving very good reviewes:

Jay has said that the blogs listings should be making an appearance soon although more as individual forum sections rather than as blogs, Depending on getting the OK from the contributors to repost them, of course. We've already agreed and I'm really hoping Horizon's will be back too along with some of the others. Jay still has the copies so they haven't been lost.
Some of the playlists are in the playlist section of the site but they require to be pretty well complete and in a certain format (which I must admit I found quite laborious and confusing) so few of the DLRP actually got posted there although many were nearly "ready to go" when the site changed without (to me. anyway) any warning. I don't think it was planned but a cause of necessity of finding something quickly. Just a guess.

Is there a template for this playlist format?
Words such as "laborious and confusing" usually indicate a need for a simpler & more automated way to input the information.
Is the information already in some sort of list form so, say a Python script, could read it in and format it properly? 8)

Roughly speaking there is a template on the site with boxes for inserting the details - track number/title/length/album title/CD cover/iTunes/Amazon links etc which one completes and pastes the resulting script into the playlist entry.. The problem is that this has to be done for each track so is time consuming as one has to clear all the boxes between entries. It's finding the time plus trying to  complete the listings.
Example
http://community.magicmusic.net/playlists/temple-du-p%C3%A9ril.17/

There is no automated way to take an existing list from a blog, that I assume looks something like this:
Code:
Frontlot

Location:  Entrance (Morning Loop)
Duration:   86'07

01 Gone with the Wind (0.13 – 1.47)   [1]
02 Good Morning Pongo / Walking the Dogs (0.00 – 1.03)   [2]
03 Parade of the Charioteers (from Ben-Hur) (0.00 – 1.34)   [3]
...

[1] Various Artists, Themes From Academy Award Winners
[2] 101 Dalmatians Motion Picture Soundtrack
[3] Erich Kunzel & the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra, Hollywood's Greatest Hits Vol 1
...

and reformat it?  Adding online store links could be automated as well if those are kept as a list in a file but I usually copy-and-paste those for my track lists.

anything like that would be way, way beyond my abilities alas. This is the present playlist generator (there are little boxes next to each entry to type into) The original thread is here http://community.magicmusic.net/threads/bens-magic-music-playlist-entry-generator.4856/
It works well, just long-winded when you have rather a lot of playlists  ::)

Track No:

Title:

Time:

Artist:

Album:

Cover Art URL:

CD ASIN:

iTunes URL after /us/album/:

Amazon MP3 ASIN:

BB Code to copy/paste:

[FLOAT=left]
full
[/FLOAT] XX. Unknown Track X:XX
Unknown Artist
Unknown Album

Note: Remember to reduce Amazon cover art to 80 pixels (i.e., change 'AA280_.jpg' to 'AA80_.jpg').

eyore, thanks for the link but I get this error:
Code:
Magic Music - Error
You do not have permission to view this page or perform this action.
I'm proposing that I write a Python script to go through the DLRP blog(s) to find playlists, probably with some manual guidance or intervention, and to generate new playlists that are properly formatted for posting on MagicMusic.

I'm really sorry but python to means either snake or Monty (I know there's a link there). I don't know a thing about programming since BBC Basic in he 80s.. My brain doesn't accept stuff like this. I had a look at the Python site and it's well beyond me.

The page error (I should have realised) is because you are nott a playlist editor on the site so it's restricted access.

The generator was designed by C33

But this took 20 minutes to complete - looking up the Amazon details is the hardest - now multiply by the 26 tracks in the loop

Yes, there is definitely a link; the creator of the Python language is a Monty Python fan.
Just to be clear; I would be writing all the code.  It's just text processing, not solving 3rd order partial differential equations. :D

I only need the playlists from the blogs and the proper output format for the new playlists.  If that information cannot be shared, that's unfortunate but it is what it is. 8)  I'll find another problem to solve; like the simplistic MouseBits/xbtit obscenity filter.

Ouch.  20 minutes for one track is more than a bit painful ::).
Do you have the source track purchasing information from whoever verified the source track against the reference track?  I would guess that would save some time in finding the right ASIN or iTunes URL.

EDIT I got tired of looking at Android Java code so I did some R&D on a Python script.  This work-in-progress script
Code:
#!/usr/bin/env python

import re

# List to hold a dictionary for each track's info.
trackList = []
# List to hold a dictionary for each source's info .
sourceList = []

blogPlaylistFilenameStr = 'Disneys_New_York_Hotel.txt'
# Open the text file with the original playlist and read in all the lines.
with open(blogPlaylistFilenameStr, 'r') as infile:
    allLinesList = infile.read().splitlines()

for line in allLinesList:
    # Remove any whitespace at the beginning & end of the line.
    line = line.lstrip().rstrip()
    # If the line starts with a number, it's a track.
    if line[0:1].isdigit():
        #print('Track found\n')
        # Parse the track number, the track title and the source reference.
        # The track regex pattern assumes the line has this format:
        # <digit(s)><whitespace><title><whitespace>[<digit(s)>]
        # TODO: where is the track runtime and how is it formatted?
        trackPattern = r'(\d+)\s+(.*)\s+\[(\d+)\]'
        trackMatchObj = re.match(trackPattern, line)

        if trackMatchObj:
            #print 'TODO: Amazon cover art'
            #print '%02d.' % int(trackMatchObj.group(1))
            #print '%s' % trackMatchObj.group(2)
            #print 'TODO: artist info'
            #print 'TODO: album info'
            #print 'TODO: store links'
            #print
            # Add track number & title for now.
            trackInfoDict = {}
            trackInfoDict['coverart'] = 'TODO: Amazon cover art'
            trackInfoDict['number'] = int(trackMatchObj.group(1))
            trackInfoDict['title'] = trackMatchObj.group(2)
            trackInfoDict['sourceIdx'] = int(trackMatchObj.group(3))
            trackInfoDict['CD_ASIN'] = 'TODO'
            trackInfoDict['iTunes_URL'] = 'TODO'
            trackInfoDict['MP3_ASIN'] = 'TODO'
            trackList.append(trackInfoDict)
    # If the line starts with a left square bracket, it's source information.
    elif line[0:1] == '[':
        #print('Source info found\n')
        # Parse the artist name and the album title.
        # The source regex pattern assumes the line has this format:
        # [<digit(s)>]<whitespace><artist>,<album>
        sourcePattern = r'\[(\d+)\]\s+(.*?),(.*)$'
        sourceMatchObj = re.match(sourcePattern, line)

        if sourceMatchObj:
            #print 'ref no.: %02d' % int(sourceMatchObj.group(1))
            #print 'artist: %s' % sourceMatchObj.group(2)
            #print 'album: %s' % sourceMatchObj.group(3).lstrip()
            #print
            sourceInfoDict = {}
            sourceInfoDict['artist'] = sourceMatchObj.group(2).rstrip()
            sourceInfoDict['album'] = sourceMatchObj.group(3).lstrip()
            sourceList.append(sourceInfoDict)

for trackDict in trackList:
    print '%s'% trackDict['coverart']
    print '%02d.' % trackDict['number']
    print '%s' % trackDict['title']
    print '%s' % sourceList[trackDict['sourceIdx'] - 1]['artist']
    print '%s' % sourceList[trackDict['sourceIdx'] - 1]['album']
    print 'TODO: online store links'
    print

will reformat this example playlist (the Disney's New York Hotel playlist that was posted in a Mouse Overseas thread; I added extra spaces and removed the leading zeroes from the track numbers to make it a little less tidy)

It will be interesting to see if the new playlists (when they return) will just be text listings or the actual formatted playlists that we had in the blogs. A lot were pretty well ready for posting into the playlist section but still had a few alterations/unknowns to fit in.
One of the problems was that once posted as a playlist, I don't think there was a way to amend it. It was a case of either asking Jay to do it or ask for it to be deleted. Something should be happening there soon with luck.

While I share the sentiments about the MagicMusic blog postings, including my own (the years have made me very distrusting- nowadays whenever someone posts new playlist information I immediately save a local copy of the information to my computer) if I may swerve back onto topic...

Worth noting that this particular version of Blow the Man Down from The Wind in the Rigging is also featured as a track on the Disneyland Paris CD Une Journee a Disneyland Paris, and is also featured in the BGM for the Storyteller Cafe at the Grand Californian Hotel as is another track from the same source album (the listing for that loop is one one of my blog postings...)

It's also worth noting that the Pirate loop at DLRP plays two versions of this title
This one is the one marked second version.

Run Time 60:11 (approximate)

1 Yo-Ho, A pirates Life for me.
2 Bound for the Rio Grande. ** (Away Rio on the CD).
3 Johnny Come Down to Hilo *
4 A Pirate's Life.
5 Maid of Amsterdam (tune version 1)
6 Fathoms Below
7 Staten Island Hornpipe **
8 n/k
9 Never smile at a crocodile.
10 Farewell to Grog
11 What shall we do with the drunken sailor. *
12 Whale of a tale. *
13 Blow the Man Down *
14 A Life on the Ocean Wave
15 A-Roving (Maid of Amsterdam) **
16 Haul Boys Haul *
17 Dreadnought
18 Under the Sea
19 Blow Ye Winds in the Morning **
20 Long Time Ago *
21 Elegant Captain Hook
22 Song of the Fishes *
23 American Frigate *
24 Roll the Cotton Down.
25 A Pirates Life (Version 2 )
26 Round the Corner Sally.
27 ?
29 Fireworks Jig (NB this tune is played in the film "The Little Mermaid" but is NOT this version)
30 Boston Harbor **
29 The Sailor Likes his Bottle-O
31 Blow the man down (second version) **
32 Strike the Bell. **

** = Available on CD "The Wind in the Rigging" (original issue date (vinyl) 1984)

Okay I have one more song that needs to be identified. I think it was used on the disney.com website or a commerical. Anyway here is the link to the song.

Thanks for the help. I am sorry that I am asking for help to identify these songs.

It's called "Where Magic Lives" and was indeed used both in commercials and on the website. Here is an example for a planning video:
