Please Help Me To Seed.
« on: November 08, 2009, 08:07:37 PM »

Hi all,

I am kind of new at all of this peer-to-peer magic and realized last night that I am NOT seeding! I thought I was:(

I looked into it and found that it looks like my router is not opening the port. So I have 2 questions:

#1 - Does anyone have simple instructions on how to get the port opened?

#2 - Does opening this port open my computers to any risks?

Thanks so much! Looking forward to adding to the fun!

Generally, it depends on the router, your client and your OS.
You could read this

but that's for XP but may give you an idea.
Try different clients - some do it for you.

I often have the problem too. You probably have it sorted by now. I use Simple Port Forwarding. It is a free and easy to use program.  http://www.simpleportforwarding.com/

You will have your port forwarding before Jiminy Cricket finishes Wish Upon A  Star.

As far as open ports go, always a risk. I use Peerblock   http://www.peerblock.com/

Cheers
