I'd like to learn to "seed" using my iMac but can't figure it out...

I absolutely hate that I have a low ratio. I lay awake at night and say to the ceiling "Why, oh why, do I have a low ratio? Am I a bad person? DAMN YOU INTERNET!!!!". On some of the other "file trading" sites (read: porn) I don't have a problem. I just keep the file going when I go to work and it seeds fine. That doesn't seem to work here. When I try to download the torrent again and save it over the one I've downloaded, as some have suggested, it just adds a "1" to the file and starts downloading it again. I'm using an iMac (which everyone should own) and I'm using either Miro or Transmission. I've checked the help files but they seem to be "take" oriented so were no help. Could someone help me please? I don't want to be selfish, I want to share!

I'm not sure I fully understand your problem, but I'll try my best.  I haven't used Miro, and have only used Transmission a bit (normally I use Azureus, now called Vuze).  Since you have no problem with other torrent sites, what is the difference with Mousebits torrents?  I would suspect you in fact ARE seeding (because when the file is finished downloading, you automatically begin seeding), you just aren't sharing because nobody is connecting to you.  I have the same problem, with some torrents in which I get in the swarm late.  It's just the nature of smaller torrent sites like this one--lots of people willing to share, and fewer people looking to download.

Now, if for some reason the torrent disappears in Transmission or deletes itself when it finishes downloading, then you have a problem--most likely it's fixable in preferences.  As long as it says "seeding" in transmission, you're all set, and you're ready to share when people connect to you.

That might have been a rant, but if you have more questions, I'm willing to help.

There's also no requirement for you to share - although it's nice if you can.
Nobody will complain if you don't (or can't).
There's normally enough seeds and, if there are no seeds at all, it appears in the "seeds wanted" box on the home page.
Many of my torrents don't seed for the reason that nobody wants them at the moment.
You're not selfish so don't worry about it.
As kevlightyear says, if it says "seeding" then that's as much as you can do ;D
